Copper Sheet Metal in NJ: Copper and Zinc Parts Made to Order
We fabricate copper sheet metal in NJ, and zinc, to your installer’s or architect’s dimensions. We run copper mostly in 16 oz and zinc in 0.7 mm and 0.8 mm. Both go into standing seam panels, flashing, box gutter liners, chimney caps and trim. We do not install; your installer puts the parts on.

Many owners mix materials: copper on the bay or the entry, painted standing seam on the main roof. That puts the natural metal where people see it.
What copper weight and zinc thickness do we run?
Copper mostly in 16 oz, and zinc in 0.7 mm and 0.8 mm. Our copper and zinc standing seam, flashing, liners, caps and trim are made in those sizes.
Copper sheet is sold by weight, so 16 oz copper weighs 16 ounces for each square foot of sheet. Zinc is sold by thickness in millimeters.

How long do copper and zinc roofs last?
A very long time when they are detailed well. The Copper Development Association reports estimates of more than 100 years for copper roofs, and zinc maker VMZINC cites a 100-year design life.
Those are estimates, not guarantees. Real life depends on the seams, cleats and flashing your installer builds, and on water leaving the roof without pooling.
The same CDA source puts asphalt shingles at an average of about 15 to 30 years. A copper bay roof can outlast several roofs on the rest of the house.
How should copper be kept away from other metals?
Plan where the water goes before any part is made. Copper runoff stains masonry and can corrode steel, aluminum and zinc below it.
Steel warranties say so too. Metal Sales’ Galvalume warranty, for example, excludes areas that get runoff from copper or lead flashing, and areas in contact with copper.
- Use copper cleats and fasteners with copper parts.
- Keep copper from touching steel, aluminum or zinc.
- Form wall and chimney flashing in a metal that suits the roof.
- Route copper runoff away from painted steel panels below.

Do historic districts call for copper or zinc?
Often. Natural metal is what many historic commissions expect on bays, porches and towers. A home in a local historic district usually needs a review before major exterior changes.

Parts are cut on our 10-foot shear and formed on our 10-foot CNC folder. We do not measure on site, so field dimensions are your installer’s responsibility.

What copper weight do you use?
Mostly 16 oz copper, which weighs 16 ounces per square foot of sheet. We use it for standing seam, flashing, box gutter liners, chimney caps and trim.
What zinc thickness do you use?
0.7 mm and 0.8 mm. We use zinc for mechanical lock standing seam, flashing, box gutter liners, chimney caps and trim.
Will my copper roof turn green?
Usually, given time. Copper darkens to brown first, and the green patina forms slowly depending on exposure. Sheltered areas may stay brown for many years.
Can I put copper on just one part of the house?
Yes. Many owners choose copper for a bay window, an entry roof or a dormer and keep the main roof in painted standing seam. Your installer should keep copper runoff off the steel below.
Can copper touch my aluminum or steel roof?
It should not. Copper in contact with, or draining onto, steel or aluminum can corrode them. Your installer should separate the metals and route the water away.
How fast can you make copper or zinc parts?

Do you install copper roofs?
No. We fabricate the panels, flashing, liners and caps, and your installer puts them on. Field dimensions are the installer’s responsibility.
