Perforated Metal Panels Fabricated in New Jersey

We fabricate perforated metal panels in NJ for screens, rooftop equipment screens, soffits, facades and railing infill. The sheet comes pre-perforated from the mill, and we cut, fold and form it into panels to your dimensions or drawings. The designer picks the hole pattern and open area from what the material supplier stocks. Written quotes come back within 24-48 hours, and your installer puts the panels up.

What are perforated metal panels?

They are panels made from sheet metal with a regular pattern of holes. The holes let air, light and some view pass through, while the metal screens, shades or guards the space behind it.

The holes are made at the mill, not in our shop. We take that perforated sheet and fabricate it: we shear it to size on our 10′ shear and fold the edges, hems and returns on our 10′ CNC folder. Folded edges stiffen the panel and give your installer a flange to fasten.

Where are perforated metal panels used?

Mostly where a solid wall would trap air or block light. Equipment screens, soffits, facades and railings are the common uses.

Rooftop equipment screens

Panels hide rooftop units from the street while air still reaches them. The mechanical designer sets how open the screen must be. For a solid screen, see the AMP 7.2 Rib.

Screens and enclosures

Trash and utility enclosures, privacy screens and fence infill, where you want separation without a blank wall.

Soffits

Vented soffits under roof overhangs and canopies, where air needs to move. See our soffit and fascia page for solid and vented options.

Facades and sunshades

A perforated layer over a wall or over glass adds shade, depth and pattern to a facade. Our metal wall panels hub covers the solid cladding behind it.

Railing infill

Panels set inside guard and stair rail frames on balconies, decks and walkways. The designer chooses a pattern that meets the code’s opening limits.

Who picks the hole pattern and open area?

The designer does, from what the material supplier stocks. We do not perforate sheet or keep our own patterns, so the pattern comes from the supplier’s available sheets.

A perforated sheet is described by a few terms. Knowing them makes the specification easy to read.

  • Hole size and shape: the diameter or size of each opening.
  • Spacing: the center-to-center distance between holes, and whether the rows are straight or staggered.
  • Open area: the share of the sheet that is holes, written as a percentage.
  • Metal and thickness: the sheet the pattern is punched into.

More open area means more airflow and light, but less screening and a less stiff panel. A rooftop screen may need a high open area for the equipment, while a privacy screen wants less. Some patterns come prefinished and some come bare, depending on the supplier, so ask us whether your pattern is available in the color you need.

How do we fabricate perforated panels?

We cut, fold and form the perforated sheet to your dimensions or approved drawings. The panel shapes are the same flat panels, trays and channels we make from solid sheet.

  1. The designer or your installer sends the panel sizes, edge details and the pattern.
  2. We shear each panel to size from the perforated sheet.
  3. We fold the edges, hems and returns on the CNC folder, so the panel stays flat and has a fastening flange.
  4. Where a panel folds, the shop drawing shows how the bend line meets the hole pattern.
  5. We bend any solid frames, caps and closures the job needs as custom trim.

On architectural and commercial jobs, shop drawings come back for approval where the job calls for them. Our shop capabilities page lists our equipment.

What should you send for a perforated panel quote?

Send the use, the pattern, the panel sizes and the finish. Plans and a specification are ideal, but a sketch with measurements works too.

  • Use: equipment screen, enclosure, soffit, facade or railing infill.
  • Pattern: hole size, spacing and open area, or the supplier pattern named in the specification.
  • Metal and thickness: as specified with the pattern.
  • Panel sizes and quantities: with the edge returns or flanges your installer needs.
  • Attachment: what the panels fasten to, such as a frame, girts or rail posts.
  • Finish and color: and whether the panels must match nearby trim or wall panels.

A written quote comes back within 24-48 hours, and the lead time is on your quote. There is no minimum order. We deliver within about a 5-hour drive of the shop, across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland, with the delivery cost quoted with the order, or you can pick up during office hours, Monday–Friday 7 AM–5 PM.

Guard infill must meet the code’s opening limits, and screens on a roof take wind, so those design checks belong to the designer and your installer. Have a lower written quote for the same parts? Send it with your request and we will match or beat it.

Perforated metal panel questions

Do you perforate the metal?

No. The sheet comes pre-perforated from the mill. We cut, fold and form it into panels, trays and channels in our shop.

Which hole patterns can I choose?

Any pattern the material supplier stocks in the metal and thickness you need. The designer picks it, and we fabricate from that sheet. We do not keep patterns of our own.

What does open area mean?

Open area is the share of the sheet taken up by holes, written as a percentage. More open area lets more air and light through but screens less and makes the panel less stiff.

Can perforated panels be used for railing infill?

Yes. We make infill panels to fit inside guard and stair rail frames. The designer chooses a pattern that meets the code’s opening limits, and your installer sets the panels in the frames.

How long does a perforated panel order take?

The lead time is on your quote, which comes back within 24-48 hours of receiving your sizes or drawings.

Do you install perforated metal panels?

No. We are a fabrication shop. We make the panels to your installer’s dimensions or approved drawings, and your installer fastens them in place.
