What do we fabricate in our shop?
Exterior architectural sheet metal for walls, parapets and roofs, made to order from your dimensions or plans. We fabricate; your contractor or installer puts the parts on the building.
Wall panels and ACM
Our AMP wall panel profiles are cut to the lengths each elevation needs, which cuts down on end laps and field cutting. Aluminum composite panels are routed and folded into trays to approved shop drawings. See metal wall panels.
Standing seam roof panels
Snap-lock and mechanical seam panels cut to the lengths on your order, with matching eave, rake, ridge and valley trim for your roofer. Ask which metals and seam heights we can run for your job. See standing seam roof panels.
Coping
Parapet caps with cleats, sloped tops and splice plates, made to the wall widths and run lengths on your order. See metal coping.
Flashing
Counter, step, headwall, valley and kick-out flashing, sill and head flashing at openings, and chimney crickets. See metal flashing.
Box gutter liners
New metal liners shaped to fit existing built-in gutters, made to the dimensions your contractor takes of the old gutter. See box gutters.
Trim and custom parts
Corners, base and head trim, window and door surrounds, chimney caps, fascia and soffit cladding, and one-off pieces drawn by an architect or copied from an old part. See custom fabrication.
Which metals and finishes do we work with?
Coated steel and painted aluminum are the everyday metals in our shop. Copper and zinc fabrication is available on request, so ask us. The right metal depends on the building, its exposure to weather and salt, and the look the design calls for.
| Metal | Typical uses | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Steel on a Galvalume or galvanized substrate, with a PVDF or SMP finish | Wall panels, coping, flashing, trim and standing seam roof panels | PVDF holds color longer; SMP costs less. Some substrate warranties exclude sites close to salt water. |
| Aluminum, painted | Coping, flashing and roof panels near the shore, and trim on aluminum systems | Lighter than steel and does not rust, which makes it a common choice near salt water. |
| Copper, on request | Bay window and porch roofs, flashing and built-in gutter liners on older homes | Weathers from bright to brown and, over the years, to green. Its runoff must stay off Galvalume steel. |
| Zinc, on request | Accent roofs and cladding on historic and modern buildings | Develops a soft gray patina over time. |
On finishes, MBCI describes its 70% PVDF system as the choice for color retention on high-visibility projects and its SMP system as its most economical option. Ask for the color chart for the finish you are considering. Gauges and thicknesses are set by the specification, the detail or your order, and confirmed on the quote or submittal.
Copper and Galvalume have to be kept apart. Metal Sales, for example, excludes from its Galvalume warranty any area that receives runoff from copper or lead flashing, so tell us when copper and coated steel will meet on the same building. See copper and zinc sheet metal for how those metals age.
How do dimensions, drawings and approvals work?
We fabricate from the dimensions you send and the drawings we prepare. We do not measure on site, so field dimensions are your installer’s responsibility. The steps are the same for a single chimney cap and a full commercial wall.
- Dimensions: you send a cut list, field dimensions taken by your installer, or plans and specs, with the profile, metal, finish and color you want.
- Quote: we reply with a written, itemized quote, or with questions if something is missing.
- Drawing: we draw each profile with its dimensions, bends, hems and drip edges, and note the metal, gauge and finish.
- Approval: architectural and commercial orders get shop drawings for the architect, usually sent through the general contractor; residential orders get a profile sketch and a color confirmation in writing.
- Fabrication: parts are cut and formed in our shop from approved drawings only.
- Delivery or pickup: the finished order goes to your job in New Jersey or waits for you at the shop.
What if the building does not match the drawings?
Plans show design intent, and real walls and parapets rarely match them exactly. If your installer finds a wall out of plumb or a parapet wider than drawn, send the corrected field dimensions before we cut, and we revise the drawing. Once parts are made, the terms on your quote or invoice apply.
Ask us for current lead times when you plan your schedule. They change with the work already in the shop, the metal and finish, and material availability, so we check before we answer. For commercial work, our submittals page lists what goes to the architect.
How are orders checked, labelled and packed?
Every piece is checked against the approved drawing, labelled to match your order and bundled so your installer can find it. A mistake caught in the shop is far cheaper to fix than one found on a lift.
- Lengths and bend angles measured against the approved drawing
- Hems, drip edges and cleats formed wherever the detail calls for them
- Color and gloss compared with the approved sample, with trim bent from the panel coil wherever the order allows
- Labels by elevation, area or cut-list line, so each piece has a place
- Bundles with a packing list that matches the quote
- Painted faces protected during handling and loading
- Accessories listed on the quote, such as closures, cleats and splice plates, packed with the order
How do delivery and pickup work?
We deliver orders to jobs in New Jersey, or you can pick them up at our shop during business hours. Ask about delivery to your job when you request a quote.
Delivery to your job
Tell us the delivery address, any access limits such as narrow streets, low wires or gates, and who will receive the load. Long panels need a clear place to unload and store, so plan that space with your installer before delivery day.
Pickup at the shop
Orders can be picked up at 13A Jules Lane, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, during business hours (Mo-Fr 07:00-17:00). Bring a vehicle that suits the length of the longest pieces, and check the order against the packing list before you leave.
What should your installer check when the order arrives?
- Count the pieces against the packing list and match the labels to your cut list
- Compare each part with the approved drawing: length, profile, bends and color
- Store panels off the ground, covered and sloped so water drains, until they go on the building
- Use fasteners and sealants suited to the metal, such as copper or stainless steel fasteners with copper
- If a part does not match the approved drawing, set it aside and call us before it is installed
Who installs the parts we make?
Your contractor, roofer or installer. We are a fabrication shop only, and we do not install anything.
That keeps our job clear: accurate parts, made to your numbers and approved drawings, with the paperwork to match. Contractors and builders can read about quotes, submittals and delivery on our page for contractors and builders. Homeowners should ask their installer for the measurements, then request a quote. Finish warranties come from the coil maker and installation warranties from your installer; our warranties page explains the rest.

Shop FAQ
Questions about our fabrication shop
Can you make a part from my drawing or an old piece?
Yes. Send a drawing with dimensions, or photos of the old piece with its measurements. We draw the profile, confirm the metal and finish with you, and form it in our shop for your installer.
What metals can you work with?
Coated steel on Galvalume or galvanized substrates with PVDF or SMP finishes, and painted aluminum. Copper and zinc fabrication is available on request, so ask us. The right choice depends on exposure, appearance and the specification.
Do you measure on site?
No. We work from the dimensions, cut list or plans you send and from our shop drawings. Field dimensions are your installer’s responsibility, so have them measured before you order.
What are your lead times?
They change with the work in the shop, the metal and finish you choose and material availability. Ask about current lead times when you request a quote, and we will check before we answer.
Can you match the trim color to the panels?
Wherever the order allows, trim is bent from the coil used for the panels, so color and gloss match. When that is not possible, we check the trim color against the approved sample before forming.
Do you deliver, or can I pick up?
Both. We deliver to jobs in New Jersey, or you can pick up at our shop during business hours. Ask about delivery to your job when you request a quote.
What if a part does not match the approved drawing?
Call us before it goes on the building. Check each piece against the approved drawing and its label when the order arrives, set aside anything that does not match, and the terms on your quote or invoice apply.
