Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication for New Jersey Buildings

Sheet metal fabrication in NJ covers the one-off and short-run pieces that catalog parts cannot fit: chimney caps, fascia and soffit cladding, trim and parts made from drawings. We bend them in our shop in prefinished steel or aluminum, with copper on request, to your drawings or your installer’s dimensions, for delivery in New Jersey or pickup at the shop. Owners can request a quote; builders can send plans for a quote.

What do we fabricate?

Anything a building needs in formed sheet metal that a stock part will not fit. Most requests fall into four groups.

Chimney caps

Single and multi-flue caps and chase covers with sloped tops and drip edges, made to the crown size you send.

Fascia and soffit cladding

Metal wrapped over wood fascia, rake boards and soffits on commercial and architectural work, in colors that match the roof or walls.

Trim

Window and door heads, sills, corner trims, band boards, base trims and transitions between materials.

Parts from drawings

Column wraps, curb and equipment covers, pans and odd transitions, built from your dimensioned drawing or sketch.

We have done custom sheet metal fabrication in New Jersey for more than ten years, alongside our metal wall panel and roofing panel work. Your installer, roofer or contractor puts the parts in. The shop is run by an owner with 26+ years of forming metal.

How are custom chimney caps built?

A chimney cap is a small sheet metal roof for the chimney. It keeps rain and snow out of the flues and off the crown, and it sheds water clear of the brick.

  • Made to the crown dimensions your installer or mason measures, not ordered by flue size, so the skirt fits the masonry or chase on every side.
  • Sloped or hipped top with cross-breaks, so water runs off and a wide top stays flat.
  • Drip edges that stand off the masonry face instead of dribbling down it.
  • Multi-flue caps that cover several flues at once, with clear height set from the existing flues and the appliances that use them.
  • Chase covers for framed chimneys, with a raised collar at each flue opening and a slope that keeps water from pooling.

Copper is the classic choice on older homes and is available on request. Prefinished steel and aluminum suit modern homes and can match the roof. Crown and mortar repairs come first; coordinate them with your mason before the cap goes on.

What is fascia and soffit cladding?

Cladding wraps wood fascia, rake boards and soffits in formed metal, so they stop needing paint and stay protected from water. On commercial buildings it also finishes the roof edge in a color that matches the wall panels or the coping.

We form each run to the profile your installer measures, with hemmed edges, locked or lapped joints and a drip at the bottom edge. Long runs need joints that let the metal expand without buckling. Where a soffit must breathe, the installer keeps the vent openings clear; ask us about perforated metal.

Your installer should replace rotted wood before the cladding goes on. Metal over wet or soft wood traps the moisture and lets the rot keep spreading out of sight.

Which trim pieces do buildings usually need?

Trim goes wherever two materials meet. Good trim laps water outward at each of those joints and lines up cleanly with the panels around it.

  • Window and door head flashings with end dams
  • Sills and sill pans under openings
  • Inside and outside corner trims for metal wall panels
  • Base trims with a drip, set above grade or above a masonry wainscot
  • Band boards and transitions between metal, brick, stucco and wood
  • Rake and eave trims, drip edges and gable-end trims

When you order the wall panels or roof panels from us as well, trim comes from the same coil, so the colors match. For other work, pick a color from the coil maker’s chart. Head and sill pieces also tie into the metal flashing around the opening.

Build from drawings or from field dimensions?

Build from drawings when the building is new and the drawings are coordinated. Use field dimensions from your installer when the building already exists, because older walls, parapets and chimneys are rarely square, level or the size the plans say. We work from your dimensions and our shop drawings; field dimensions are the installer’s responsibility.

On new construction, have your installer verify key dimensions in the field before release, even with good drawings.

When you send a drawing, include the metal, the gauge or thickness, the finish and color, every dimension with its bend direction, any hems, and the quantity. A clear, dimensioned sketch is often enough for simple trim. For project work, send drawings and the specification section on our send plans page.

What metals and finishes can we form?

We form prefinished steel and aluminum in our shop, and copper or zinc fabrication is available on request, so ask us. Finish choices follow the coil makers’ color charts.

  • Prefinished Galvalume or galvanized steel in PVDF or SMP finishes, matching our standing seam roof panels and wall panels.
  • Aluminum, plain or prefinished, for coastal sites and light trim.
  • Copper, on request, for chimney caps, historic trim and soldered work.

MBCI, for example, describes its Signature 300 PVDF finish as built for color retention, and its Signature 200 SMP finish as its most economical choice. Read the finish warranty for the exact color you choose, because chalk and fade terms vary by maker and by color.

Our shop capabilities page explains how drawings and approvals work, and the custom sheet metal hub covers metal coping, flashing and box gutters.

Custom fabrication questions

Can you make a single custom piece?

Yes. One-off pieces such as a chimney cap or a transition trim are a normal part of custom fabrication. Send the dimensions or a drawing, and we quote the piece.

What do I need to send for a part made from a drawing?

A dimensioned drawing or sketch, the metal and gauge or thickness, the finish and color, hems and bend directions, and the quantity. For project work, add the specification section and the bid date.

Who should take the measurements?

Your installer or contractor. We work from your dimensions and our shop drawings and do not measure on site. Older walls and chimneys are rarely square, so have the installer measure at several points, or send a template for odd shapes.

Can you match an existing trim profile?

Usually, yes. Send a short sample piece, a tracing or a dimensioned sketch of the existing profile, and we form a new piece to match, in the same metal where possible.

Do you make copper chimney caps?

On request, yes. Copper caps can be formed to the crown size your installer or mason measures, with drip edges and soldered or folded seams. Prefinished steel and aluminum caps cost less.

Can metal cladding go over rotted fascia?

No. Your installer should replace rotted wood first. Metal over wet or soft wood traps moisture and lets the rot keep spreading out of sight.

Do you install the parts you fabricate?

No. We are a fabrication shop. Parts are made to your drawings or your installer’s dimensions, then delivered in New Jersey or picked up at the shop, and your installer, roofer or contractor puts them in.
