Chimney caps and chase covers made to measure
Custom Chimney Caps and Chase Covers in New Jersey
Custom chimney caps in NJ, made to the crown or chase you actually have instead of a catalog size. We form single-flue caps, multi-flue caps and chase covers in our shop from Galvalume steel, aluminum or 16 oz copper, to the measurements your chimney professional, mason or roofer sends.
Your installer sets the cap. We deliver it or you pick it up at the shop, and there is no minimum order: one cap is a normal job.

Why order a custom chimney cap?
Because few chimneys match a stock size. A cap made to the measured crown covers it edge to edge, throws water clear of the masonry and can cover several flues under one lid.
Off-the-shelf caps are built for one flue of a standard size. Many older New Jersey homes have wide crowns, two or three flues of different heights, or a crown that is out of square. Water that sits on a bare crown works into its cracks, freezes and opens them wider each winter. A cap or cover sized to the whole top keeps rain and snow off the crown and out of the flues.
Which chimney caps do we make?
Three kinds: single-flue caps, multi-flue caps and chase covers. Each is cut and bent from flat sheet in our shop and sized to your numbers.
Single-flue caps
A lid and base sized to one flue tile, with the lid height you specify above the top of the flue.
Multi-flue caps
One lid over every flue on the crown, flat or hipped, with drip edges and a skirt or flange sized to the crown.
Chase covers
A metal top for a framed chimney chase, with a raised collar at each flue opening, cross-breaks to shed water and a drip skirt down the sides.
Flue clearances depend on the appliances that vent through the chimney, so your chimney professional sets the lid height and any screen. We build the cap to those numbers.
Which metal should a chimney cap be?
Copper for an older home and the longest life, aluminum where rust is the worry, and painted Galvalume steel to match a metal roof or trim. We form all three in our shop.
| Metal | What we form | Good fit |
|---|---|---|
| Copper | 16 oz copper | Older and historic homes, copper roofs and flashing; weathers to a brown, then green patina |
| Aluminum | .032″ or .040″ | Rust-free and light; a common choice near salt air |
| Galvalume steel | PVDF or SMP painted finish | Matches a metal roof, trim or chase siding color |
Plan where a copper cap drains. Water coming off copper attacks the steel or aluminum it lands on, and Metal Sales’ Galvalume warranty, for example, does not cover areas subject to runoff from copper flashings or piping. Over a Galvalume roof, a painted steel or aluminum cap avoids the problem. Near the ocean or the bays, see our guide to metal near the Jersey Shore before you choose.
What measurements should you send?
The outside size of the crown or chase top, the size and position of each flue, and how tall the flues stand. Field dimensions are your installer’s responsibility; we build to the numbers you send.
- Length and width of the crown or chase top at its outside edge. Measure both ends of each side if it looks out of square.
- Each flue’s outside size or diameter, and its distance from two sides of the crown.
- The height of each flue above the crown, and the lid height your chimney professional wants above the tallest one.
- Skirt depth down the sides, for chase covers and caps that wrap the crown.
- Flat or hipped lid, the metal and the color.
- Photos from two sides with a tape measure in view.
Attach it all to a quote request, email info@architecturalmetalpanels.net, or text us the photos and a sketch.
What else does a chimney need?
Flashing where it meets the roof, and on a wide chimney, a cricket on the uphill side. We form those parts as well, so the cap and flashing can come in one order.
See metal flashing for step flashing, counterflashing and crickets. For a copper cap that matches copper flashing or a copper roof, see copper and zinc sheet metal. Other one-off parts are on our custom fabrication page.
How does a chimney cap order work?

Chimney cap questions
How do I measure for a custom chimney cap?
Measure the outside length and width of the crown, each flue’s size and position, and the height of the tallest flue above the crown. Add photos with a tape measure in view, and have your installer confirm the numbers.
Can one cap cover several flues?
Yes. A multi-flue cap covers every flue under one lid sized to the crown, with the lid set at the height your chimney professional specifies above the tallest flue.
What is a chase cover?
A metal top for a framed chimney chase. It has a raised collar at each flue opening, cross-breaks or a slope to shed water, and a skirt that laps down over the chase siding.
Is copper a good choice for a chimney cap?
Copper suits older homes and copper flashing, and it weathers to a natural patina. Keep its runoff off steel and aluminum below it. Aluminum and painted Galvalume suit modern homes and can match the roof color.
Do you install chimney caps?
No. We are a fabrication shop. We make the cap or chase cover to your measurements, and your chimney professional, mason or roofer installs it.
