Custom Metal Trim and Brake Metal in New Jersey

Custom metal trim in NJ, bent to the profile your installer draws: drip edge, rake, ridge, eave, J-channel, corners, window and door trim, and transitions between materials. We cut each blank on our 10′ shear and bend it on our 10′ CNC folder, so the angles on the last piece match the first. Most trim is ready in 1-2 days, depending on color and gauge.

Have a sketch on paper? text us a photo of it, and we reply with a written quote within 24-48 hours.

Which trim profiles do we bend?

Any profile that fits on a 10-foot brake: the standard roof and wall trims, plus the one-off shapes a job turns up. Brake metal is simply trim bent on a brake from flat sheet.

TrimWhere it goes
Drip edgeEaves and rakes, kicking water clear of the fascia
Eave trimBottom edge of a metal roof, where the panels start
Rake trimGable edges of a metal roof, over the panel edge
Ridge capThe peak, where two roof slopes meet
J-channelAround windows, doors and soffit edges, to receive siding or panels
Inside and outside cornersWall corners on metal siding and wall panels
Window and door trimHeads with a drip, jambs, sills and casing wraps
TransitionsWhere a roof meets a wall, or metal meets brick, stucco or another panel

Step, counter and valley flashing have their own page: see metal flashing. Fascia wrap and soffit panels are on soffit and fascia.

How do you send a trim sketch?

Draw the end view of the piece, write every leg dimension and angle, mark the hems and the color side, then add the length and quantity. A clear phone photo of a hand sketch is enough.

  1. Draw the end view. Sketch the profile as if you cut through the piece and looked at the cut.
  2. Dimension every leg in inches. Added together, the legs and hems give the girth: the width of flat metal the piece is cut from.
  3. Mark each angle that is not 90 degrees, such as a rake or ridge set to the roof pitch.
  4. Show the hems, open or closed, and which side they fold to.
  5. Mark the color side, the face that will show once the trim is up.
  6. Give lengths and quantities. Each piece is up to 10 feet long; longer runs are made of several pieces that your installer laps.
  7. Name the metal, gauge and color.

Then text us a photo of the sketch, email it to info@architecturalmetalpanels.net, or attach it to a quote request. If a dimension is missing, we ask before we bend anything.

Which metals and gauges can trim be?

Galvalume steel, aluminum, copper and zinc, in the gauge or thickness your roof or wall system uses. Heavier metal stays flatter on wide faces.

MetalGauge or thicknessNotes
Galvalume steel22, 24 or 26 gaugePVDF or SMP finish; matches our steel roof and wall panels
Aluminum.032″ or .040″Rust-free; suits salt air, fascia and soffit trim
CopperMostly 16 ozHistoric work and copper roofs; weathers to a patina
Zinc0.7 mm or 0.8 mmMatches zinc roofing and cladding
Your quote lists the metal, gauge and girth of each profile.

Custom (non-stock) colors carry a minimum quantity, and finish warranties come from the coil maker.

When is custom metal trim better than stock trim?

When the stock piece is the wrong size, angle or color. Older houses, metal roofs and mixed-material walls rarely match catalog trim.

  • Roof pitch. Rake and ridge trim bent to the real pitch sits tight instead of gapping.
  • Board and wall sizes. Fascia, casing and band boards on older homes come in sizes no catalog lists.
  • Panel profiles. Corners and closures for metal wall panels and standing seam roof panels have to fit the panel you are using.
  • Color. Trim ordered with the panels comes in the same color and finish.

Need a part rather than trim, such as a curb cover or an odd transition from a drawing? See custom fabrication. The owner brings 26+ years in the metal trades to every profile. Architectural Metal Panels has fabricated metal since 2000, and in New Jersey since 2018.

How does a custom trim order work?

In four steps: your sketch, our written quote, bending in the shop, then delivery or pickup.

  • Written quote within 24-48 hours (business days) of your sketch or cut list
  • Trim bent in 1-2 days, depending on color and gauge
  • No minimum order: one length of drip edge or a full house of trim
  • Delivered within about a 5-hour drive (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland), priced on the quote
  • Pickup at the shop, Monday–Friday 7 AM–5 PM

Have a lower written quote for the same trim? Send it with your request and we will match or beat it.

Custom trim questions

What is brake metal?

Brake metal is trim bent on a brake from flat sheet: drip edge, corners, J-channel, window trim and similar profiles. Ours is cut on a 10′ shear and bent on a 10′ CNC folder to your sketch.

How long can a piece of trim be?

Up to 10 feet per piece. Longer runs are made of several pieces that your installer laps on the wall or roof.

What is the girth of a trim piece?

The girth is the total width of flat metal a piece is cut from: every leg and hem added together. It sets how much metal the piece uses, so it is one of the first numbers on a trim quote.

How fast can you make custom trim?

Most trim is ready in 1-2 days, depending on color and gauge. Quotes come back within 24-48 hours (business days) of your sketch.

Is there a minimum order for trim?

No. We bend single pieces as well as full house and building packages. Custom (non-stock) colors carry a minimum quantity.

Do you install the trim you bend?

No. We are a fabrication shop. We bend the trim to your installer’s sketch and measurements, and your installer puts it on the building.
