Panel and trim pricing
Metal Roof Panels Cost: What Sets the Price of Panels and Trim
What metal roof panels cost depends on six things: the metal, the gauge, the finish, the panel lengths, the number of trim pieces and the quantity on the order. This guide explains each one, shows national installed totals from published cost guides for context, and shows how to get a written materials price from our New Jersey shop.

What does a metal roof panel order cost?
It depends on the order, so the reliable number is a written quote built from your dimensions. Send the profile, metal, finish, panel lengths and trim list, and we reply with a quote or questions.
Standing seam panels from our shop start at $9 per square foot of roof, materials only (prices as of ). For a simple 2,000 square foot roof, that rate works out to about $18,000. Your quote adjusts it for the gauge, finish, panel lengths and trim on your order.
A materials price covers what the quote lists: the panels, trim and flashing we fabricate. We do not install, so the labor and the rest of the job are priced by your roofer.
What drives the price of panels and trim?
Six things: metal, gauge, finish, panel length, trim count and quantity. Roof size sets the quantity, and the shape of the roof sets the trim count.
Metal
Galvalume steel costs less than aluminum, and both cost much less than copper or zinc, which we fabricate on request. Aluminum is often chosen near salt water, because steel substrate warranties exclude salt exposure.
Gauge
Moving from 24 to 22 gauge steel adds material cost along with stiffness. Aluminum is priced by thickness instead, commonly .032 or .040 inch.
Finish and color
PVDF (Kynar 500 resin) finishes cost more than SMP and hold their color longer. Specialty and metallic colors can add more. The finish notes on our standing seam roof panels page explain the difference.
Panel length
Panel length drives the square footage on the order. Long runs also need careful handling and a delivery plan, so ask about the lengths on your job. One panel per run from eave to ridge avoids end laps, which is why each run needs an accurate field measurement from your roofer.
Trim count
Every eave, rake, ridge, hip, valley, wall and chimney needs its own trim or flashing. A plain gable roof needs few pieces. A cut-up roof with dormers and valleys needs many, so it costs more per square foot of roof.
Quantity
The total square footage of panels and the number of trim pieces set most of the materials price. Ask how the size of your order affects your quote.

What do cost guides say a metal roof costs installed?
Published guides quote installed totals, which include the roofer’s labor and other job costs, not just materials. They are national figures, not New Jersey quotes and not our prices.
| Roof type | National installed total (labor by others) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Standing seam steel | $9 to $16 per sq ft; about $13,500 to $40,000 for a typical home | HomeGuide, 2026 guide (Nov. 2025) |
| Standing seam, average job | About $19,000; most jobs $9,400 to $32,600 | HomeAdvisor, updated June 2026 |
| Labor share of installed standing seam | $4 to $8 per sq ft | HomeGuide |
| Metal shingles and shakes | $6 to $14 per sq ft (HomeGuide); $7 to $22 per sq ft (HomeAdvisor) | HomeGuide; HomeAdvisor |
| Copper | $1,300 to $3,000 per square (100 sq ft) | HomeGuide |
| Zinc | $1,000 to $2,000 per square (100 sq ft) | HomeGuide |
HomeGuide defines a typical home as 1,500 to 2,500 square feet of roof. HomeAdvisor cites a wider $4 to $30 per square foot for standing seam, depending on metal, gauge and roof size. We found no reliable source that measures a New Jersey premium, so we do not quote one.
How does an installed total compare with a materials quote?
An installed total bundles materials, labor, tear-off, disposal and the roofer’s overhead. A materials quote from us covers only the panels and trim we fabricate.
At HomeGuide’s national range of $9 to $16 per square foot, a 2,000 square foot standing seam roof works out to about $18,000 to $32,000 as an installed total, with labor by others included. The same guide puts labor alone at $4 to $8 per square foot. Treat those numbers as planning context, not a quote.
Sales tax also works differently on a full re-roof. New Jersey treats a new roof as an exempt capital improvement when the owner gives the contractor a completed Form ST-8, while the contractor pays sales tax on the materials it buys, per the Division of Taxation’s S&U-3 bulletin. Repairs stay taxable. Ask your roofer how that applies to your job.

Estimate your roof size and request a price
Start with a planning number, then send real measurements. Where the roof size tool is available, it estimates roof area from an address, which helps owners and roofers size an order early.
Aerial roof size estimates are for planning only. Before we fabricate, your roofer’s field measurements set every panel length and trim piece, because we never measure on site.
Is a metal roof worth the cost?
For owners who plan to stay, it often is. The Copper Development Association puts asphalt shingle roofs at an average of about 15 to 30 years, so a long-lived metal roof can stand in for one or more future shingle jobs.
Add lower upkeep and the option to mount solar on standing seam without drilling, and the cost per year of service can favor metal. Read the benefits of metal roofing and why asphalt roofs fail to weigh it, or compare types of metal roofing and copper and zinc options.
Finish warranties come from the coil manufacturer, and installation warranties come from your roofer. Our warranties page explains both, and the metal roofing panels hub shows everything we make.
Metal roof panel price questions
How much do metal roof panels cost?
It depends on the metal, gauge, finish, panel lengths, trim count and quantity. Send your dimensions for a written materials quote. National guides quote installed totals instead, such as HomeGuide’s $9 to $16 per square foot for installed standing seam, which includes labor by others.
Does your price include installation?
No. We fabricate and do not install, so our quote covers the panels, trim and flashing we make. Your roofer prices the labor and the rest of the job. Ask about delivery to your job when you order.
Why do metal roof quotes vary so much?
Quotes differ in metal, gauge, finish and how much trim and flashing they include. Compare them line by line. An installed quote also adds the roofer’s labor, underlayment and tear-off, so compare installed quotes with installed quotes and materials with materials.
Do you sell panels to homeowners?
Yes, to homeowners who have a roofer or other installer lined up. The installer takes the measurements, you or they send them for a quote, and the order is delivered in New Jersey or picked up at our shop.
Is a new roof taxable in New Jersey?
A complete new roof is an exempt capital improvement once the owner gives the contractor a completed Form ST-8, according to the Division of Taxation; repairs are taxed. The contractor still pays sales tax on the materials it buys. Ask your roofer how this applies to your job.
Is the roof size tool accurate enough to price my roof?
It gives a planning estimate from aerial data. We fabricate only from your roofer’s field measurements, because overhangs, dormers and hidden planes change the numbers.
