Why does a New Brunswick shop matter for your Middlesex job?

It shortens every handoff. Pickup is a short drive for most contractors in the county, and a delivery to the job does not cross half the state.

That matters most when a detail changes. If your roofer finds a parapet out of level, or a box gutter deeper than the drawings show, they can send revised dimensions before that piece is made. Getting the dimension right in the shop is cheaper than fixing a misfit cap on the roof.

New Brunswick is also the county seat. The city had 55,266 residents in the 2020 Census and an estimated 57,133 on July 1, 2025, according to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts.

Who uses our metal in Middlesex County?

Three building stocks dominate, and the contractors working on each one order different parts. Knowing which one you are dealing with tells you where to start.

Warehouses and distribution buildings

Large logistics and light-industrial buildings line the highway corridors through Edison, Piscataway, South Brunswick, Cranbury and Carteret. Their office ends, dock walls and parapets call for metal wall panels and shop-formed caps, usually ordered by the general contractor or the panel installer.

Brick downtown blocks

New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, South River and Metuchen have rows of older brick storefronts with flat roofs hidden behind parapets. Their roofers and masons order coping, counter-flashing and, on many buildings, new box gutter liners.

Post-war and newer homes

Capes, split-levels and colonials fill East Brunswick, Old Bridge, Sayreville and Monroe Township. Owners who choose metal hire a roofer, and the roofer orders standing seam roof panels and matching trim.

Which products fit Middlesex County buildings?

Most orders we expect from the county fall into four groups. Each link below opens the full product page.

  • Commercial wall cladding. Aluminum composite panels routed and folded for storefronts, fascias and entrances, plus ribbed or wave profiles for long warehouse walls.
  • Parapet caps. Metal coping in 22 or 24 gauge steel or .040″ aluminum, cleated and sloped so water drains back to the roof.
  • Leak points. Counter-flashing, step flashing, kick-outs and chimney pieces from our metal flashing line.
  • Roofs. Standing seam panels for houses, and commercial metal roof panels and edge metal for low-slope buildings.

General contractors bidding work in the county can upload drawings on our bid request page and list the alternates they need priced. Architectural and commercial orders get shop drawings for approval before any metal is cut.

Middlesex County facts that affect the order

A few public facts change which metal and which details make sense in Middlesex County. The short version is below.

ItemMiddlesex County
County seatNew Brunswick
Population, 2020 Census863,162
Population estimate, July 1, 2025883,335
Energy code climate zone4A
Salt water nearbyRaritan Bay shoreline at Perth Amboy and South Amboy
Ice barrier at the eavesNot required by code here; many roofers still lay one as good practice
Population: U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts. Climate zone: NJ DCA Bulletin 22-1. Ice barrier: NJ DCA Bulletin 07-3.

The climate zone comes from DCA Bulletin 22-1. The ice barrier rule comes from DCA Bulletin 07-3, which ties the code requirement to Sussex County only.

The bay towns need one extra check. Sheffield Metals lists typical Galvalume warranty exclusions that reach 800 feet inland from coastline on a large bay. For a building close to Raritan Bay, we check the warranty for the specific coil before quoting steel, or quote aluminum instead.

Do re-roofs in Middlesex County need a permit?

For a detached one- or two-family house, usually not, and the permit question belongs to the owner and the installer. New Jersey’s Uniform Construction Code lists replacing the roof covering on those homes as ordinary maintenance, so no construction permit is filed (N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.7).

Townhouses, condos, apartment buildings and commercial property are not on that list. Their roof replacements generally go through the local construction office, whether the building is in Woodbridge, Edison or New Brunswick. Work that affects structural or fire safety is never ordinary maintenance, so your installer should confirm with the town.

Historic listings can add a step. New Brunswick’s Livingston Avenue Historic District, around Livingston Avenue between Hale and Morris Streets, appears on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the National Park Service record. National Register listing alone does not create local design review, so ask the city what applies before you order metal for a roof or facade there.

Middlesex County questions

Where is the Architectural Metal Panels shop?

In New Brunswick, the Middlesex County seat. The address is 13A Jules Lane, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Panels, coping and trim are formed there, and orders can be picked up during business hours.

Do you measure buildings in Edison or East Brunswick before fabricating?

No. We work from the dimensions, cut list or plans you send, and your roofer or installer takes the field measurements. For architectural and commercial orders we send shop drawings for approval before fabrication.

Is Galvalume a safe choice for a building near Raritan Bay?

It depends on the warranty for the exact coil. Sheffield Metals lists typical Galvalume exclusions within 800 feet of coastline on a large bay. Close to the water we check the coil warranty before quoting steel, or quote aluminum.

Is Middlesex County in the colder energy code climate zone?

No. DCA Bulletin 22-1 places Middlesex in zone 4A. The colder zone 5A covers nearby Somerset, Morris and Hunterdon counties, among others.

Do you supply panels for warehouses along the Middlesex highway corridors?

Yes. Wall panels, parapet coping, commercial roof panels and edge metal are core products. Contractors can send plans and specs through our bid request page for a quote.
